POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec is currently recruiting a Senior Planner/Scheduler to work at our Calgary Office location (9423 Shepard Road SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6).  The Senior Planner/Scheduler, will play a crucial role in the Project Controls team, overseeing and coordinating all aspects of project planning and scheduling. Reporting to the Project Controls and Project Service Manager, the Senior Planner/Scheduler’s primary responsibility is to develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules, considering all tasks, resources, and timelines required for successful project execution. The Senior Planner/Scheduler will analyze project requirements, assess potential risks, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the smooth progression of projects. The Senior Planner/Scheduler will be skilled in critical path analysis, schedule risking, resource allocation and will contribute to optimizing project timelines and resource utilization. Additionally, this role will provide regular updates on project progress, address any schedule deviations, and assist in identifying solutions to keep projects on track. As a key member of the Project Controls team, the Senior Planner/Scheduler’s strategic planning and scheduling efforts will contribute to the timely and efficient completion of projects, meeting or exceeding client expectations.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

PROJECT SCHEDULING CONTROL (Weighting 45%)

Project Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track project progress by monitoring planned versus actual on an activity and milestones basis.
  • Provide regular status updates and reports on project schedules, highlighting any deviations or risks.
  • Identify potential schedule conflicts, resource constraints, or delays and propose corrective actions or mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to resolve scheduling conflicts and ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Develop and maintain EPC project master schedules
  • Develop and maintain detailed Fabrication schedules
  • Develop and maintain fabrication shop loading

Risk Management

  • Identify and assess project risks that may impact project schedules.
  • Develop contingency plans and incorporate them into project schedules to mitigate potential delays or disruptions.
  • Regularly review risk registers and update project schedules accordingly.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Generate regular progress reports, including schedule updates, milestone achievements, and potential risks or delays.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including project plans, schedules, basis of schedule and other related records.
  • Provide timely and relevant information to project stakeholders regarding schedule performance and potential impacts.

PROJECT KICK-OFF (Weighting 40%)

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Collaborate with project teams to develop comprehensive project plans and schedules, considering project scope, objectives, and resource requirements.
  • Conduct initial project assessments to identify critical activities, milestones, and dependencies.
  • Utilize project management software and tools to create and update project schedules, ensuring they align with project requirements and timelines.
  • Define work breakdown structures (WBS) and create project schedules using appropriate scheduling techniques and methodologies.

Resource Allocation

  • Evaluate resource requirements for project activities and ensure optimal resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with project managers and team leads to identify resource requirements for each project phase.
  • Advise on resource leveling and allocation to optimize project schedules and ensure efficient utilization of resources.
  • Monitor resource availability and capacity to identify potential bottlenecks or resource constraints that may impact project schedules.

CONTINOUS IMPROVEMENT & COMPLIANCE (Weighting 15%)

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, project management methodologies, and industry standards in scheduling practices.
  • Ensure schedule data and documentation accuracy, verifying consistency with project objectives.
  • Implement quality control measures in schedule development and maintenance.

Mentorship & Training

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior planners/schedulers.
  • Facilitate training programs to enhance the scheduling capabilities of project teams.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for enhancing project planning and scheduling processes.
  • Lead initiatives to improve scheduling efficiency and accuracy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10+years of experience as a Planner/Scheduler in a project-based environment.
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) is an asset.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and scheduling techniques.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong time management and prioritization abilities.
